Kristi's Birthday Gift

I have a sister who died several years ago. Her name was Kristi and she was amazing. Full of attitude. Full of passion (some would argue a little too much passion). Full of this amazing ability to befriend new people and to help those around her. Tomorrow would be her 23rd birthday. Usually I find myself getting really sad around Sept 12th. I think of all that she could have accomplished, all the good she would have done, all of the things that we have missed out on doing together. This year, instead of being sad I have been inspired!

I read an amazing blog that was written by somebody I know. You should go to http://adventuresofscottandcarrie.blogspot.com/2012/09/a-birthday-of-kindness.html#comment-form really quickly and read it.

No, really. Go there and read it. Then come back here.

Did you do it?

Okay. Isn't that great!?

Tomorrow, instead of being sad on Kristi's birthday, I am going to honor her by doing random acts of kindness! I am asking each of you to please do the same. Please find a moment in your day to do a random act of kindness in honor of Kristi's birthday. Then, e-mail me, or comment on this blog or on Facebook and tell me what you did.

I want to make this a yearly tradition. I like the idea that, even though she isn't here, the world is continuing to be a little bit brighter because of her.

So, let's go, everybody! Do your RAK and share it with me!

Oh my goodness, Courtney. What a fantastic idea! I think I am going to do 23 on my own. I was just talking to Jose about it at the hospital with Olivia. I am definitely onboard. Will be thinking of kind things all day and doing them tomorrow! LOVE LOVE LOVE this!

Courtney,
You are inspirational. I haven't thought of Kristi in a few years, but I remember a lot of great times I had woth her. I shall be trying to set a good example for my kids and doing an act for her tomorrow. I hope you are well.

I remember Kristi & her bright personality. It matched her bright red hair at the time. Kristi and I had gotten pretty close to one another my freshman year of high school, her sophomore year. I remember hanging out at the fair together and meeting a Guy, later who we both fought over. But she told me how beautiful I was and That I deserved to be with him. Little did she know how beautiful she was in that moment to me for being such an amazing friend to me.
I think of Kristi often as her birthday is very close to another great friend of mine who passed away at about the same age Kristi did in a similar situation. They are forever missed and always thought of.

She was such a sweet kid Courtney. She was well known in our house because she was always down here with Abby or Ashley G or both! I don't think she knew how people felt about her and how much she brought to their lives, so I will spend tomorrow making sure the people in my life know.

I am not listing all of my kind acts today, but thought I would tell you, it started at 1:30 a.m. I got up and fixed my wonderful husband his favorite meal. Well actually had it prepared before I went to bed, but set my alarm and made his plate when he got home from work - something I rarely ever do.

Random act of kindness: My elderly neighbor's mailbox was overflowing so I brought her mail upstairs for her.

Courtney, how very inspiring that you are doing this in honor of Kristi. i didnt know her as well as you or Adam, but she was a very beautiful, talented and kind person, so in honor of her, my first act of kindness today was to take my neighbors a cup of coffee and bring them their news paper from the driveway. i hope to do 22 more RAK's in her honor!

I gave our neighbor's daughter one of Georgia's tutus because she didn't need FOUR and the little girl loved it.
Happy Birthday to your sister, who, today, made a little girl very happy.
